About Me

Hello, I'm Aslıhan Aşan. Starting therapy—especially when you're looking for the right therapist—can sometimes feel uncertain or overwhelming. Reaching this page suggests that you've already taken a courageous and meaningful step in seeking support. I hope the information you find here helps guide you in understanding how I work and what therapy with me might look like.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology with honors in 2008. I then earned a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, followed by a second Master's degree in Addiction Psychology and Counseling at London South Bank University—a program accredited by UK Addiction Professionals. These academic experiences have allowed me to build a solid foundation and deepen my expertise in the field of mental health and addiction. I take an integrative and holistic approach that considers both psychological and social factors.

Over the past 15 years, I have gained extensive clinical experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, always aiming to bring cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and an ethically grounded understanding into the therapeutic process. My therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing techniques, and Schema Therapy. As an ISST-accredited Schema Therapist, I find deep meaning and fulfilment in working with early life experiences and how they shape present-day emotional and relational patterns.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards, with a commitment to regular supervision and continuous professional development.

Experience

I am an experienced, BACP-registered psychotherapist and counsellor working with adults. Over the course of my professional journey, I have had the opportunity to work in Turkey and various other countries, enriching my practice with a broad, culturally informed perspective.

I spent two years working as a therapist at an NHS-affiliated addiction centre in London, where I provided intensive one-to-one support to individuals facing addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges.

Currently, alongside my private practice, I work part-time at two leading community-based organisations in London—IMECE Women's Centre and Solace Women's Aid—both of which provide intercultural therapy in multiple languages to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

My therapeutic approach is rooted not only in clinical training, but also in extensive field experience, cultural competence, and long-standing supervision. I am committed to offering a safe, respectful, and inclusive therapeutic space for everyone I work with.

How I Work

My aim in therapy is to offer a safe, non-judgmental space—a space for reflection—where we can explore your thoughts, emotions, and behavioural patterns together. Through this process, you may gain insights that allow you to make more conscious life choices and experience your life with greater richness and clarity, rather than feeling held back by the weight of the past.

At the heart of my approach lies the therapeutic relationship we build together. This relationship is based on trust, respect, and openness. Sessions are open-ended and unstructured, meaning that you are free to bring whatever feels most important or pressing. I will accompany you in this journey of discovery, offering curiosity, care, and therapeutic support along the way.

Sessions are held once or twice weekly, depending on your needs, and each session lasts 50 minutes. I offer both long-term therapy for in-depth exploration, and short-term work focused on specific issues. The pace and structure of therapy are always tailored to your individual circumstances and goals.

Our initial meeting will be an assessment session. In this conversation, we will explore your concerns, needs, and expectations, and assess whether working together feels like the right fit for you at this time.

I offer therapy both in person and online. For those living outside London or abroad, remote sessions provide a flexible and effective way to access support.

To help you decide whether I'm the right therapist for you, I offer a free 15-minute introductory consultation. This is a chance for us to connect briefly and discuss what you're looking for, before committing to ongoing sessions.
